Why Did My Short Position Close Itself?

Sometimes you may notice that a previous short position is a smaller size that your started it at or may be closed out all together.  This is because you are borrowing shares to short, and if the person you are borrowing from needs to sell then they need their shares back.  A cover order for your shares at the appropriate number of shares will automatically be entered at the best price available to allow that person to sell their shares.
